City College Norwich

The RUG Room is a ‘haven’ and ‘social workspace’ for young people with Aspergers and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at City College Norwich.

Following completion, this very quickly this became the UK’s first ‘exemplar’ project for a learning environment of this type. A key feature of this project was the speed with which it was implemented by Team a go-go. We were appointed in June and completed a process of consultation with students, design, tender of construction packages, project management and site supervision to completion and handover for opening in September. Team a go-go brought in a lighting consultant associate as the sensory elements of this project were a high priority.

The involvement of the students throughout the design process was crucial to the scheme’s success and we can see a number of successful concepts in this design which translate well into other sectors.
